Luke 18:1-8

Jesus told his disciples a parable about the necessity for them to pray always without becoming weary. He said, "There was a judge in a certain town who neither feared God nor respected any human being. And a widow in that town used to come to him and say, 'Render a just decision for me against my adversary.' For a long time the judge was unwilling, but eventually he thought, 'While it is true that I neither fear God nor respect any human being, because this widow keeps bothering me I shall deliver a just decision for her lest she finally come and strike me.'" The Lord said, "Pay attention to what the dishonest judge says. Will not God then secure the rights of his chosen ones who call out to him day and night? Will he be slow to answer them? I tell you, he will see to it that justice is done for them speedily. But when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?"

Once more, the images and words Jesus chooses to convey His message tell more than facts. The fact in question is that, if we beseech God in prayer, He will listen. But look not only at the shape but also at the bright colors of His communication. That way we see beyond the facts into Christ's heart. For those colors reveal how big Christ's desire for us to understand this is, how desperately He tries to encourage us in our prayer life, how audacious He is in promising success. His heart is burning here!

This passion brings forth, for example, the expression of a “speedily justice” instead of a “slow answer.” In fact, a characteristic feature of a passionate inner state is the dynamism, yes, the hurry to reach the desired objective. If we learn to desire the right things and thus ask for the true objectives, then our passion will sync with God's passionate desire to give us what is good and true and beautiful. Imagine the results of that synchronization of hurries! Imagine the speed with which His grace will launch us to ever greater heights! The moment we learn to ask for the right things, that moment we will be showered in grace.

Jesus, show me the true goods! Teach me beautiful truths! Form in me the real desires of life! You seem quite passionate about fulfilling my dreams - so much so that Your passion to save me let You to embrace the Passion. The petition that takes form in my heart while contemplating this passionate love of Yours is a longing to correspond to Your love. The passion that awakes in me when contemplating Your Passion is the resolve to pursue the same objective for which You laid down Your life. In Your presence the true goods and the beautiful truths surface in my heart. They prompt me to ask speedily: “Lead me to holiness, send me wherever You need me, give me only Your love and Your grace - that will suffice always.”
